Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca reveals concerns over Levi Colwill’s injury, while fellow central defender Wesley Fofana is back in training after a hamstring issue.

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has confirmed that Levi Colwill suffered an injury during training, and the extent of the damage is still unknown.

Colwill, who was an ever-present for the Blues last season, playing 43 times in all competitions, could be set for a spell out. “We had a problem in the last two days with Levi Colwill, and we don’t know how long he is going to be out,” Maresca said.

The injury occurred during the last minutes of Monday’s training session, and Maresca is cautious about the situation. “We need to wait. We don’t know yet,” he added. Colwill’s absence could be a significant blow to Chelsea’s defensive lineup, especially with the new Premier League campaign about to kick off.

Maresca didn’t rule out the possibility of Chelsea signing more defensive reinforcements should Colwill be out for an extended period. “It depends. We need to wait, and then we’ll see,” he said, highlighting the importance of Colwill to the team. Colwill has been a main player for Chelsea, and his absence would require some adjustments to the team’s strategy.

In contrast, fellow central defender Wesley Fofana is making progress in his recovery from a hamstring injury.

Fofana has been training with the team and could be available for the Palace game, according to Maresca. “Wes is back. He’s training with us. I don’t think he’s ready to get minutes in the next two games but he can probably be available for the Palace game, and this is big news,” Maresca said.

Chelsea’s upcoming friendly against Bayer Leverkusen on Friday will be a good opportunity for Maresca to test his team’s lineup and make any necessary adjustments. The team’s performance in the friendly will also give Maresca an idea of how ready they are for the new season.

As the new season approaches, Chelsea will be looking to build on their progress under Maresca.
