The Blues’ head coach also hopes that Jackson and Palmer can “very soon start to score goals”
Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has sent a message to fans about how the club will approach their matches for the rest of the season.
Speaking after the match against Legia Warsaw and ahead of the Premier League clash against Fulham at Craven Cottage, the head coach admitted that they need to maintain their focus and win all their games for the rest of the season.
“We have eight games to go, and they are all finals for us,” said Maresca. “Hopefully we can win on Sunday and give ourselves a big boost.”
With six games to go Chelsea are sixth in the Premier League, one point behind Manchester City in fifth place and fourth points behind Newcastle in third. However, the Blues will play both Nottingham Forest and Newcastle in the run-in. A positive result in these fixtures could see them finish in the top five and make it to the Champions League for the first time in three years.
Chelsea’s other fixtures are in the Conference League where they play in the semi-finals against Swedish side Djurgarden. If they win, they will face either Real Betis or Fiorentina in the final in May.
Maresca also revealed that he had started Nicolas Jackson and Cole Palmer against Legia on Thursday because he wanted them to be ready for upcoming games.
“The idea was for them, especially for Nico [Jackson], the idea to play with him was to continue to build physical condition. Cole [Palmer] had a small problem before the break and it was to use him for 45 minutes/an hour to build some tempo.”
Asked what his thought was on strikers not scoring goals, Maresca said: “Especially the ones that we are missing, unfortunately, are very easy goals. In the first five minutes [against Legia], we had two good chances. It can happen.
“Hopefully Nico and Cole can very soon start to score goals.”
