Rashford will likely spend his summer on holiday after his Villa contract runs out, before returning to United’s pre-season engagements

Marcus Rashford will return to his parent club Manchester United after his loan to Aston Villa runs out this summer. The forward did not join the rest of the United squad on their early pre-season tour because his loan contract with Villa does not expire until the end of June.

Rashford’s tenure at United appears to be approaching its end regardless as the club prepare for a significant squad overhaul under manager Ruben Amorim. His loan move to Villa in February was seen as an opportunity to revitalise his career and attract the attention of other clubs after falling out of favour with Amorim. United are open to selling the player for £40 million pounds.

During his stint at Villa Park, the forward made 17 appearances across all competitions, contributing four goals and six assists. Despite these efforts, Villa has yet to decide whether to activate the £40 million buy option included in the loan agreement. The club’s failure to secure Champions League qualification, coupled with Rashford’s substantial £325,000-a-week wage demands, complicates the prospect of a permanent transfer.

Amorim has been candid about where Rashford stands in his plans. “I couldn’t put Marcus to see the way you’re supposed to play football and to train the way I see it,” the head coach said in February.

It is understood that Rashford wants to move to a club that can offer Champions League football. He is also not interested in a move to a club in London. A move to Barcelona reportedly ranks high in the forward’s targets, but it is unclear if the Catalan club are open to a deal.

Manchester United have already taken steps to reshape its attacking lineup without Rashford in the picture. Matheus Cunha is expected to complete a move from Wolves once the transfer window opens, with the Brazilian forward agreeing to a five-year contract and set to inherit Rashford’s No. 10 shirt.

After his Villa contract runs out, Rashford will likely spend his summer on holiday, before returning to United’s pre-season engagements. However, it is expected that he will complete a move away from the club before the new season begins.
