Barcelona will cover the entirety of Rashford’s wages during the loan spell

Marcus Rashford is set to become Barcelona’s newest addition after final terms were agreed for a season-long loan from Manchester United, with an option to make the move permanent next summer.

Barcelona’s option to sign the player next summer will be activated for a fee of €35m. This is a significant drop from the €46m that United were demanding for a permanent signing of the player this summer, even if the 27-year-old would be a year older in 2026.

However, Barcelona will cover the entirety of Rashford’s wages during the loan spell, and United would have been delighted to get his significant wages off their books. Rashford was due to earn roughly €346,000 per week at United in the 2025-26 season, which means that with his departure the Premier League club have saved around €17m in wage payments for the year.

Meanwhile, Barcelona have reportedly agreed a 30% salary reduction with Rashford, bringing his annual earnings down to around €12m a year. If true, this adjustment would have made the deal more financially manageable for the La Liga side, as they continue to struggle with salary cap regulations.

If the loan deal goes well, Barcelona would be happy to pay the €35m to sign Rashford permanently. If not, the player would find himself back in Manchester once more.
