Crystal Palace defender has only a year left in his contract; club willing to sell Guehi this summer

Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi has turned down the opportunity to join Arsenal, with the England international making it clear that regular first-team football is his top priority this summer.

Guehi is concerned about playing time at the Emirates, where William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhães have cemented themselves as Mikel Arteta’s go-to centre-back pairing. That has opened the door for Liverpool to make a move, provided new manager Arne Slot can offer Guehi guaranteed minutes.

The 24-year-old has become one of the most reliable defenders in the Premier League since leaving Chelsea for Crystal Palace in 2021. His performances haven’t gone unnoticed, attracting interest from top clubs like Arsenal, Liverpool and Newcastle United. But with the 2026 World Cup coming next summer, Guehi is reluctant to risk spending too much time on the bench.

Liverpool are believed to be in the market for a centre-back, especially with Jarell Quansah reportedly close to sealing a move to Bayer Leverkusen. However, if Guehi were to be that centre-back, he would have to fight for minutes with Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate.

For now, Guehi remains a Crystal Palace player, with pre-season training under Oliver Glasner set to begin next month. Palace are fresh off a historic FA Cup triumph, but there’s uncertainty over whether their defensive anchor will still be with them when the 2025-26 season kicks off.

If Liverpool can meet Palace’s valuation of the player and offer the role Guehi wants, they might just have the edge.
