England defender joins City following injuries to Ruben Dias and Josko Gvardiol
Marc Guehi will join Manchester City this January after the club agreed to pay Crystal Palace £20m to sign him with only six months left on his contract.
The England defender was set to become a free agent in the summer, but Palace were willing to allow him leave in January for a small fee.
City were interested in signing another central defender after injuries to Ruben Dias and Josko Gvardiol depleted their backline. The decision to buy Guehi six months before his contract was to expire meant they could pulled clear of the chasing pack expected to vie for his services in the summer. Liverpool, Real Madrid and Arsenal were all been linked to the player.
City first agreed personal terms with the player after talks were held between the club’s representatives and his agents, before they proceeded with Palace. The deal represents City’s second huge statement in the January 2026 transfer window, after also securing the signature of the highly coveted Antoine Semenyo.
