Winger’s exit means all four of United’s outcasts at the beginning of the summer were able to secure moves away
Aston Villa have signed Jadon Sancho on loan from Manchester United for the rest of the season.
Villa will cover around 80 per cent of the winger’s wages and have also agreed to pay a loan fee. United expect the overall package, including performance-related bonuses, to amount to full salary coverage.
Sancho is in the final year of his Old Trafford contract, though United hold an option to extend for a further 12 months.
The 25-year-old joined the club from Borussia Dortmund in 2021 but has spent much of the past two years out on loan. After a return spell at Dortmund, he spent last season with Chelsea, where he scored in the Europa Conference League final victory over Real Betis.
The move was part of a busy deadline day for Villa. They also signed former United defender Victor Lindelof on a free transfer, following the expiry of his contract at Old Trafford.
Villa’s activity comes after the sale of Jacob Ramsey to Newcastle earlier in the window and a poor start to the season. Unai Emery’s side have taken just one point from their first three league matches and are still waiting for their first goal.
Sancho’s exit means that all four of United’s outcasts at the beginning of the summer, including Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho and Antony alongside Sancho, were able to secure moves away from Old Trafford.
