Manchester United midfielder Toby Collyer could be sent out on loan this summer to get regular football.

The 21-year-old made 13 senior appearances under both Erik ten Hag and Ruben Amorim last season and reportedly wants to stay at Old Trafford.

Collyer told the media that his preference would be to stay and earn a place in Amorim’s squad.

“First and foremost, I want to be here and play as many games for United as possible,” said Collyer. “I’ll sit down with the manager and higher-ups and see what the best solution is for that, to develop, whether it’s stay here or go on loan.”

However, sources at United suggest a loan move is the likely outcome. Amorim has made no secret of his desire to bring in another midfielder, with Manchester United working on targets who can offer flexibility in both the No 6 and No 8 roles.

A new signing would mean very little playing time for Collyer, given the senior options already in the squad.

A product of Brighton’s academy, Collyer joined United in 2022 and has since impressed staff with his tactical discipline and attitude in training.

He featured sporadically last season, mostly in cup competitions and late substitute appearances.
