Today’s fixture is on a hot plate
A crucial day at Old Trafford, but not for Burnley. Ruben Amorim and Manchester United have all the pressure in the world on them to start winning football matches.
After their humiliation at Blundell Park the United manager cast doubt on his future – as if more of that was needed – with his comment that “something has to change” but “not 22 players”.
He has since given reassurances, saying he remains “focused” for the trip to Burnley, but his side now need to do the job on the pitch.
Expect Burnley to make that very difficult for them. United have not exactly blown newly promoted teams away in their most recent history.
There’s uncertainty all over the pitch, including between the sticks. All Scott Parker’s side need is an early goal to give themselves a huge chance of walking away from the Theatre of Dreams with all three points in their pocket.
Team News
Other than Lisandro Martinez and Noussair Mazraoui, both of whom remain on the sidelines due to injury, Amorim has his full squad at his disposal.
He has had selection issues recently, benching £74m signing Benjamin Sesko for two straight games, giving no minutes to youngster Kobbie Mainoo, and selecting goalkeeper Altay Bayindir ahead of Andre Onana.
The Grimsby affair has justified Bayindir’s selection in the Premier League so far, even if he has been deeply vulnerable to corners, so expect Amorim to give him the nod once again. A start for Sesko is likely, with Mason Mount possibly dropping to the bench.
Jordan Beyer, Connor Roberts, Manuel Benson and Zeki Amdouni are unavailable for the Clarets but summer signing Kyle Walker will be looking to help his side thrive against a familiar foe.
