Amorim wants the player signed quickly as Portuguese manager is keen on building chemistry among his front line early

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim is pushing for the club’s hierarchy to finalise the signing of Bryan Mbeumo before the squad depart for their pre-season tour of the United States next week.

The 25-year-old Brentford forward remains a top attacking target for United, who have already seen two offers rejected. Brentford are holding firm for a fee in excess of £62.5m, reportedly £65m.

So far, there has been no breakthrough despite ongoing talks. Amorim is frustrated by the lack of urgency and is understood to have set an internal deadline of 22 July for the club to conclude the deal.

While United was always going to need serious attacking reinforcements after scoring only 44 goals (only four sides scored less) last season, the need has grown more pressing following the understanding that the futures of Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho and Antony lie away from the club.

Mbeumo, who scored 20 league goals last season, has been identified as the ideal wide forward to for Amorim’s side. The Cameroon international is said to be eager for the move and has made his intentions clear to Brentford.

However, the London club have insisted they will not be pressed into a sale less than their valuation of the player. Phil Giles, Brentford’s director of football, said last week that Mbeumo could yet remain at the Gtech Community Stadium for the 2025-26 season if United are unable to pay the club’s asking price.

Amorim, for his part, wants the player involved in training sessions ahead of United’s Premier League Summer Series opener in Chicago. The Portuguese coach is particularly keen on building chemistry among his front line early.

United are expected to return with a third offer in the coming days. Should talks stall beyond 22 July, United may be forced to consider alternative options.
