United want only players whose futures are committed to the club to train with the first team squad
Manchester United have instructed five senior players, including Marcus Rashford, to train away from the main first-team group, with their sessions now restricted to late evenings at Carrington.
Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony and Tyrell Malacia have all been informed they are now only permitted to use training facilities after 5pm. That is after the rest of the first team have departed for the day.
United want to move on from the quintet and want only players whose futures are committed to the club to train with the first team squad. All five were told last week that they are still allowed to use the club’s facilities and can resume individual training at Carrington.
Although United said that all five asked to leave the club, the players’ representatives have denied that.
Of the group, only Rashford has so far returned to Carrington. The 27-year-old participated in solo sessions last week. The remaining players are expected to resume training later this week.
The players were also informed that they can engage in full weekend sessions once the squad travel to Stockholm for their first pre-season match against Leeds United on 19 July.
The club are actively seeking exits for all five sidelined players. Rashford has drawn interest from Barcelona, although nothing concrete has materialised for far despite preliminary discussions between Rashford’s representatives and Barcelona’s recruitment team.
Antony is also being targeted by Real Betis, although the Spanish club have struggled to produce the sum required to sign him permanently from United. Garnacho is admired by Chelsea in the Premier League and Sancho could move to Juventus.
