Ruben Amorim says both players are needed “really badly”

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim admitted he is concerned over the fitness of Matheus Cunha and Mason Mount after both players picked up injuries during the 3-2 victory over Burnley at Old Trafford.

Cunha lasted less than half an hour before signalling to the bench with a hamstring problem shortly after United’s opener, an own goal from Josh Cullen. The Brazilian forward went straight down the tunnel after being replaced.

Mount, who started in midfield, was withdrawn at half-time. Amorim later confirmed that the 26-year-old had been carrying a knock before the interval.

“It was hard to lose Cunha and Mason, because Mason played 30 minutes with an injury,” said Amorim. “I’m concerned about that because they are so important for us. We’ll see how they are.

“I don’t know yet. We will check them. We need those guys really badly to be really competitive.”

United now face an anxious wait for updates ahead of their next fixture, with an international break coming in between.
