Additions are expected in midfield, left wing and left back at Old Trafford
Manchester United are preparing for a busy summer transfer window as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of an expected return to European competition.
Midfield is a priority, made even more so by the imminent departure of Casemiro. United are targeting at least two additions. Brighton’s Carlos Baleba remains on the club’s radar after a move failed last summer, while Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson and Newcastle’s Sandro Tonali are also viewed as strong options.
There is also interest in Wolves’ Joao Gomes, West Ham’s Matheus Fernandes and Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton.
United are expected to move early in the market, mindful of the disruption that could be caused by the World Cup. Baleba, whose Cameroon side will not be involved, is seen as a practical early target, particularly with his value potentially reduced after inconsistent form.
United are also exploring options on the left wing of their attack. RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande is a leading candidate after an impressive season in the Bundesliga. Everton’s Iliman Ndiaye is another player being monitored following strong recent performances for David Moyes’s team.
At left-back, United are considering reinforcements despite Luke Shaw being under contract until 2027. There are concerns about how the 30-year-old will cope once United move from a 40- to a 60-game season next term, as they play in Europe and will hope to do much better in domestic cup competitions than they did this season. Tyrell Malacia is expected to leave in the summer.
Eintracht Frankfurt’s Nathaniel Brown and Newcastle’s Lewis Hall are both under consideration. Hall’s recent form has also seen him involved in Thomas Tuchel’s latest England squad.
