Manchester United are poised to activate the £62.5 million release clause for Wolves forward Matheus Cunha
Cunha is expected to make the switch to Old Trafford once the Premier League season concludes this weekend, with Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim deeply impressed by the player.
Cunha has enjoyed a standout season at Molineux, registering 17 goals across all competitions and becoming one of the most consistent attacking threats outside the traditional top six. His performances have not gone unnoticed, with both Manchester United and Chelsea reportedly circling in recent weeks. However, it’s United who now appear to be in pole position to secure the 25-year-old’s signature.
The Red Devils have been searching for a dynamic attacker capable of operating in the dual No 10 role behind the striker, a key position in Amorim’s 3-4-3 system. Cunha’s versatility, flair and eye for goal make him an ideal candidate to inject fresh creativity into United’s often sluggish attack.
According to Sky Sports, the deal is all but done:
“United are expected to trigger the £62.5 million release clause in his contract. The club are aware of the conditions by which that clause will be met.
“There has been no direct contact yet between United and Wolves but those formalities are anticipated once the season has closed.
“Despite interest from other clubs, Cunha wants to play for United and Sky Sports News has been told the deal is almost agreed.”
Sources close to the player say Cunha “loves United” and considers them “one of the biggest clubs in the world”. The Brazilian is eager to take the next step in his career at Old Trafford and views United as a club with historic stature and massive potential under new leadership. It is understood that their current position in the Premier League table would not put him off a potential move to Old Trafford.
If completed, the move would signal a clear statement of intent from the Old Trafford hierarchy as they attempt to rebuild their squad with Amorim at the helm.
