The Red Devils are eyeing a double summer swoop for Atalanta midfielder and forward
Manchester United have stepped up their summer transfer preparations, sending scouts to monitor Atalanta’s in-form duo Ederson and Mateo Retegui during their clash with AC Milan on Sunday.
The Red Devils are expected to engage in a major squad overhaul in the summer under new manager Ruben Amorim. TuttoAtalanta, who reported the news, also say that United have already made initial contact with both players’ representatives.
Brazilian midfielder Ederson has been a key figure in Gian Piero Gasperini’s Atalanta this season, clocking 44 appearances across all competitions. The 24-year-old excels at breaking lines and winning duels.
But Ederson’s consistency has not gone unnoticed, with Manchester City also tracking the player. United may have to compete with their neighbours for the Brazil international’s signature.
Meanwhile, Retegui has been one of the breakout stars in the Serie A this season. The Argentine-born Italy international joined Atalanta last summer from Genoa and has racked up an astonishing 23 goals and 5 assists in 31 league appearances this season.
If United decide to sign him, it is possible that he could command a fee up to double the €28 million Atalanta paid for him last summer.
Both Ederson and Retegui are in action again this weekend. Atalanta face Lecce, who sit just above the relegation zone. United, meanwhile, face the much higher ranked Bournemouth in the Premier League.
