Italian champions have an option to buy for £38m next summer but both clubs are happy to move the deal forward

Manchester United are prepared to make Rasmus Hojlund’s loan move to Napoli permanent in January.

Hojlund joined Napoli on deadline day after falling out of favour at Old Trafford. The deal was a loan with an option to buy for £38m next summer if Napoli qualify for the Champions League.

The Dane has since made a quick impression in Italy, scoring four goals in six games before suffering a thigh injury earlier this month.

Napoli’s hierarchy is said to be impressed by Hojlund’s attitude and abilities and believe he is a good fit. The club are now reportedly keen to trigger the purchase option in his loan agreement ahead of schedule.

According to The Mirror, the Serie A champions have asked United to accelerate the process, and the Premier League side have agreed in principle.

Selling Hojlund would mean that United take a substantial loss on the £72m they paid Atalanta for him in 2023, but after two seasons at Old Trafford where he failed to impress, the sporting department believe it is time for him to continue his career in a different environment.
