Manchester United 0-0 Leeds United: Nothing much in the way of action as both sides focus more on fitness than performance
Manchester United began pre-season with a flat 0-0 draw against Leeds United at the Strawberry Arena in Stockholm.
Supporters would have tuned in to watch Ruben Amorim’s 2025-26 team for a variety of reasons, but surely the expectation would have withered quickly as United offered more of the same old.
The only hope to cling on to would be that it was just the first game of pre-season, hardly important, a mere fitness routine.
Both managers rotated heavily and looked to hand minutes to a broad cast of players. United’s new boy Matheus Cunha started the game, although if he has many gears to showcase at Old Trafford next season he hardly kicked into any of them here.
He was withdrawn at the interval as Amorim fielded essentially a new XI for the second half, which is standard pre-season practice.
Leeds may have created the better chances but neither side found much rhythm in the Swedish capital. The newly promoted side handed a debut to Sean Longstaff, who completed his move from Newcastle just 24 hours earlier.
Like Amorim, Daniel Farke rang the changes at the break, focusing more on fitness than result.
United now shift their attention to a three-game US tour, with fixtures lined up against West Ham, Bournemouth and Everton.
