Club made an initial offer worth £55m for Mbeumo early in June
Manchester United have stepped up their pursuit of Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo, submitting an improved offer worth over £60 million after their initial £55 million bid was turned down.
The 25-year-old has become a top target for United boss Ruben Amorim, who sees him as a perfect fit for his style of play. The club are now confident that their latest offer, which meets Brentford’s valuation, is enough to finally get the deal over the line.
Mbeumo, who scored 20 league goals last season, is entering the final two years of his contract. Brentford are open to a sale but only at the right price. There’s also a sense inside the club that the player deserves a move to a bigger stage after several seasons of consistent performances.
Tottenham also showed interest this month and held initial discussions with Brentford. The North London side were thought to be in a strong position after hiring Thomas Frank as their new head coach. The Dane was Mbeumo’s manager for six years at Brentford.
However, while the Spurs link intrigued the Mbeumo, the forward is reportedly leaning towards a move to Manchester United.
The Cameroon international can earn a significant pay rise with a move to United, with wages expected to reach at least £150,000 per week, similar to what fellow target Matheus Cunha has been offered.
United’s forward line is in need of serious reinforcement, with Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Antony and Alejandro Garnacho all expected to leave this summer. Mbeumo’s Premier League experience, ability to play in a 3-4-3, pressing energy, and goal threat make him an attractive signing for Amorim.
