Offer comes shortly after Newcastle lodged a similar bid for the striker
Manchester United have submitted a bid worth €75m plus €10m in add-ons to RB Leipzig for striker Benjamin Sesko.
The bid follows days of speculation linking the 22-year-old Slovenia international with United. Leipzig are yet to respond to the offer.
United had been in touch with Leipzig since late July as they discussed options to strengthen their attack.
Newcastle have already made two bids for Sesko in that time. United’s formal move for the striker comes shortly after the Magpies lodged an improved bid for him, believed to be €80m upfront, with add-ons to be included to that sum.
Newcastle’s second bid is slightly higher than United’s. However, sources have suggested the player is leaning towards a move to Manchester.
Sesko scored 21 goals in all competitions for Leipzig last season and is seen as one of the most promising young centre-forwards in Europe. He has caught the eye of several top Premier League clubs this summer.
United manager Ruben Amorim has already improved his forward options this summer with the signings of Matheus Cunha from Wolves and Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford. But it seems the manager does not have enough faith in Rasmus Hojlund, who is the club’s current No 9, also signed for €75m plus €10m in 2023.
