Club have already completed a deal for Wolves forward Cunha and are eyeing further early signings

Manchester United have clear idea of what they need to do in the transfer window this summer, CEO Omar Berrada has said. United desperately need good squad investment as they look to bounce back from one of the most disastrous seasons in the club’s recent history.

“I can’t talk about specifics but I can say we have been planning for many months now,” Berrada said. “We were ready for all the different scenarios and now know what we need to do.

“We have a very clear idea where we need to invest in the squad to improve. So Jason [Wilcox], his team and Ruben [Amorim] have been in talks, as I said, for many months.

“Now it’s a question of executing that plan and doing it in a way that is prudent but, at the same time, with ambition.”

The 2024-25 campaign was a nightmare for the Old Trafford side. The club finished in 15th place in the Premier League and a heartbreaking defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final meant that they missed out on European competition for the first time since 2014.

The disappointing finish had major financial implications. Missing out on Champions League revenue is expected to cost the club upwards of £70 million, forcing United to balance ambition with caution in the transfer market.

United will need to sell players this summer to create squad space and generate revenue, but Amorim has ruled out the sale of captain Bruno Fernandes, whose future has been the subject of intense speculation.

“You can see by the performance, the leadership, the passion he has for the games. So it is really important, especially in these kind of moments,” said Amorim.

“He should be because he is the captain, so he’s really important for us and really important for what we want to build with this team.”
