Whether a signing happens in January or the summer will depend on availability and price
Manchester United are preparing to strengthen their midfield in 2026, with Stuttgart’s Angelo Stiller emerging as one of several names under consideration by the club’s recruitment team.
Ruben Amorim and the club hierarchy are understood to be in agreement that central midfield will be a priority area in the next transfer window, though whether a signing arrives in January or the summer will depend on availability and price, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The club accepts that deals for top players are often difficult to complete in the January window.
Stiller has been a standout performer for Stuttgart and has recently established himself as part of the German national setup. His technical control, ability to dictate tempo, and maturity in possession have made him one of the most consistent midfielders in the Bundesliga.
United have tracked Stiller for several years, with director of football Jason Wilcox said to be a long-term admirer.
Wilcox has reportedly followed the midfielder’s development closely since his time at Bayern Munich’s academy and has continued to push for him as a serious target. United were linked with Stiller during the summer but no approach was made.
Amorim wants to add a technically gifted midfielder capable of progressing play through tight spaces, which has led United to draw up a shortlist of six players. Alongside Stiller, Brighton’s Carlos Baleba and Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton are among those being monitored.
