United could pivot to Semenyo if Brentford try to complicate a deal for Mbeumo

Manchester United are keeping tabs on Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo as a potential alternative to primary transfer target Bryan Mbeumo.

However, they face stiff competition from Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur, who have reportedly stepped up their interest in the versatile Cherries forward.

United’s top priority remains Brentford’s Mbeumo, who netted 20 Premier League goals last season. Spurs are also keen on the Cameroon international, but are preparing backup options, including Semenyo, in case they fail to strike a deal.

Semenyo enjoyed an impressive 2024-25 campaign at Bournemouth, registering 13 goals and seven assists in 40 appearances while playing across the front three. His versatility has attracted attention from multiple top-flight clubs, including Liverpool, who are also monitoring the situation.

Semenyo is said to prefer a move to a Champions League club, something that may impact United’s efforts to land the forward after failing to qualify for Europe.

United have already made one major move in attack, signing Wolves forward Matheus Cunha for £62.5 million. However, it is understood that further reinforcements remain a priority for the club, even without the looming exits of Antony, Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho and Marcus Rashford.

United have already had an initial £55 million bid for Mbeumo turned down and are expected to return with an improved offer. The club may pivot to Semenyo if Brentford try to complicate the deal, but they would likely have to pay much more for the Ghanaian.
