Clubs have agreed on an initial fee, with add-ons expected to take the total payment to the region of £65m

Manchester United are closing in on a move for Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo, in a deal worth more than the £60m they bid for him this week.

The forward is set to become head coach Ruben Amorim’s second major summer signing after the arrival of Matheus Cunha from Wolves.

United approached Brentford earlier in June for a deal worth a total of £55m, which the Bees rejected. But the club made an improved offer this week in the region of £60m.

An initial fee has now reportedly been agreed between United and Brentford, with talks ongoing over potential add-ons that could bring the total value of the deal close to Brentford’s £65m asking price.

United have already spent £62.5m on Cunha, activating his release clause on the first day of this summer’s first transfer window. Signing Mbeumo would now take their summer spending to around £125m.

Brentford believe the 25-year-old Mbeumo belongs in the same bracket as Cunha, and United are expected to match the Brazilian’s weekly wage of around £150,000.

Mbeumo had an impressive season for Brentford in 2024-25, scoring 20 Premier League goals, five more than Cunha managed at Wolves.
