Bayindir and new signing Lammens are United’s first-choice options after Andre Onana agreed a loan move to Trabzonspor
Former Chelsea midfielder Craig Burley has warned Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim not to select Altay Bayindir again after his struggles at the start of the season.
Bayindir, who has played in all of United’s opening three Premier League fixtures, has been targeted repeatedly from set-pieces and looked uncertain dealing with aerial deliveries.
“They can’t play Altay Bayindir,” Burley told ESPN. “He might be okay at shot-stopping, which is what goalkeepers are paid for, but he’s absolutely useless at dealing with balls in from set-pieces.”
United’s No 1 last season, Andre Onana, was dropped at the start of the campaign following a series of high-profile errors last term, with Bayindir starting ahead of the Cameroonian.
The club moved late in the summer market to secure Belgian goalkeeper Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp for a fee in the region of £18m, while Onana has now agreed to join Turkish side Trabzonspor on loan. That leaves only Lammens and Bayindir as United’s first-choice options.
Burley said: “This new lad [Lammens] needs to be able to marshal a back four, make saves and have an authority and make a statement at set-pieces.
“That’s what every team is going to do against United now. They’re going to launch balls into the box and the goalkeeper needs to be able to deal with it.
“He’s either going to sink or swim. We don’t really know how he’s going to handle this scenario.”
