Brazilian winger is asking for a payoff to cover the pay cut he would take by moving to Spain
Manchester United have agreed a fee with Real Betis for winger Antony, but the move remains up in the air due to a dispute over wages.
The deal, worth up to €25m, also includes a 50 per cent sell-on clause, meaning United will receive half of the surplus of any future transfer fees exceeding the €25m Betis are to pay.
Betis are keen on bringing Antony back after a successful loan spell last season, when he scored nine goals in 26 appearances, but personal terms have yet to be finalised.
Antony has two years left on his £6m-a-year contract at Old Trafford and would take a significant pay cut by moving to Spain.
The player is asking for a solution to cover the €4m shortfall in earnings, according to The Athletic. Betis have made it clear they will not increase their offer and expect United to reach a settlement with the Brazilian if the transfer is to go through.
For now, Betis consider the agreement withdrawn unless the wage issue is resolved. The club also claim they have begun exploring alternative attacking options in case a deal falls through.
