Winger has a £65m release clause that becomes active next month

Manchester City are considering an approach for Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo in the January transfer window, although other top Premier League sides are also keeping tabs.

Semenyo has a release clause worth £65m that can be activated during the first two weeks of January, a narrow window designed to give Bournemouth some protection against a late exit. City see the clause as an opportunity to land the highly-rated winger, but they accept that any move would likely turn into a competitive race, according to Sky Sports.

Liverpool, Manchester United, Tottenham and Arsenal have all monitored the Ghana international at various points and are expected to assess their options again when the window opens.

Liverpool’s interest has intensified amid uncertainty over Mohamed Salah’s future, while United and Tottenham explored the possibility of a deal last summer. Arsenal have also tracked Semenyo’s progress in recent seasons, though they might not consider a move having brought in Eberechi Eze and Noni Madueke in the summer window.

If no club moves for Semenyo in the first two weeks of January he will remain at the Vitality Stadium for the rest of the reason, but the clause is set to return in the summer at a yet reduced price, which means it is also possible that clubs move for him later in the year instead.

Semenyo has scored seven goals in 15 appearances this season. He went on a six-game scoring drought after starting the campaign on a high, but found the net again in last weekend’s 4-4 draw with Manchester United.

The Ghanaian will not be involved in the Africa Cup of Nations after his nation failed to qualify, a factor that could appeal to clubs seeking reinforcements after losing key players to Afcon.
