Move comes after the winger was the target of a summer transfer deal from Tottenham

Manchester City are close to finalising a new long-term contract with winger Savinho, with talks at an advanced stage.

The Brazilian joined City in 2024 after impressive performances for Girona, and the five-year contract he signed at the time means he is already tied to the club until 2029.

The new deal is expected to extend that commitment by two more years and improve significantly on the terms agreed when he first arrived.

The move to offer the 21-year-old an extension and improved terms comes after he was the target of a summer transfer deal from Tottenham. Savinho was reportedly open to the transfer but the two clubs failed to agree terms.

If the extension is signed, it will be a stunning reversal to what had seemed like a highly probable move to north London just last month.

However, City have always rated Savinho highly and consider him as an important part of their plans for the future. During the summer, head coach Pep Guardiola backed the player to stay at the club “hopefully for many, many years”.

Savinho is yet to start to a Premier League match for City this season, but he came off the bench in their last two against Manchester United and Arsenal, before starting in the Carabao Cup against Huddersfield, where he scored a goal in the second half to seal City’s 2-0 victory.
