Luka Modric has completed his move to AC Milan on a free transfer, signing a one-year deal with the option to extend for another year.

Luka Modric, the 39-year-old Croatian midfielder, has joined AC Milan on a free transfer after 13 successful years at Real Madrid. Modric has signed a contract until June 2026, with the Italian side having the option to trigger a one-year extension.

Modric’s departure from Real Madrid was announced in May, and he played his final match for the club in the Club World Cup semi-final against Paris Saint-Germain.

During his time at Real Madrid, Modric won 28 trophies, including six Champions Leagues and four La Liga titles, making him the club’s most decorated player. He scored 43 goals in 597 games for Real Madrid and was awarded the Ballon d’Or in 2018.

The Croatian captain is eager to continue playing at the highest level and is keen to participate in the upcoming World Cup, which will take place in Canada, Mexico, and the US. Modric’s experience and skill will be a valuable asset to AC Milan, who finished eighth in Serie A last season and missed out on a spot in Europe.

AC Milan’s head coach, Massimiliano Allegri, praised Modric, calling him an “extraordinary player” when confirming the signing earlier this month. Allegri’s enthusiasm for Modric’s arrival is understandable, given the Croatian’s impressive track record and ability to perform under pressure.
