Thomas Tuchel, Julian Nagelsmann and Eddie Howe also on the four-man list
Jamie Carragher has named four coaches that Manchester United should be targeting in the summer, and heading the list is Paris Saint-Germain manager and two-time treble winner Luis Enrique.
Enrique had success at Barcelona from 2013 to 2016, winning La Liga twice and the Champions League once with much aplomb, setting up the best team in the world by a clear margin.
He has achieved a similar feat at PSG since joining them in 2023, winning the treble, including the Ligue One title unbeaten and securing the club’s first Champions League trophy.
Carragher said “you would absolutely have him all day”, calling him the best manager in Europe. Enrique has a contract at PSG until 2027.

Also on the list were Thomas Tuchel and Julian Nagelsmann, both leading the England and the German national teams respectively to the 2026 World Cup. Tuchel is highly rated after coaching Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich, PSG and Chelsea, winning the Champions League with the latter in 2021.
Carragher said Tuchel “has been in the Premier League before. He’s obviously a top manager. The thing I like about him is I still think he’s got that energy and drive and spikiness about him.
“He’s gone into the England squad, and he’s ruffled feathers with some of the biggest players there. Now I’m not saying that has to happen in every job he’s in, but there’s something about him.”
On Nagelsmann he said: “I don’t know everything about him but I do look at a coach with a big reputation, with a lot to prove in some ways.”
The fourth man on the list was Newcastle’s Eddie Howe. Carragher praised the style of football the English coach had implemented at Newcastle, calling it the style of football any top team in England would love to play.
“But the real thing I like is that you have to be able to handle the pressures of Manchester United,” said Carragher.
“Where I think he could also help is that Manchester United have a problem with young players – a lot of them don’t go on to fulfil their potential – but I think Eddie Howe is a great coach.”
