Move could leave room for the Premier League champions to sign Alexander Isak
Luis Diaz is set to join Bayern Munich after Liverpool accepted an offer worth €75m for the Colombian winger.
Diaz is expected to finalise the transfer within the next 24 hours. The player is currently with Liverpool on their pre-season tour in Tokyo but has been granted permission to leave the camp and travel to Germany.
His departure will bring an end to a three-and-a-half-year spell at Anfield.
The club had maintained that Diaz was not for sale and had bids from both Bayern and Barcelona turned down earlier this summer.
However, Diaz informed the club of his desire to leave and talks resumed with the Bundesliga champions last week. The 28-year-old was omitted from Saturday’s friendly against AC Milan due to ongoing discussions over his future.
Diaz joined Liverpool from FC Porto in January 2022 and went on to score 41 goals in 148 appearances. He was a key figure in last season’s Premier League title win under Slot, scoring 13 times in 36 league appearances.
Liverpool have already signed Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt for a fee rising to £79m. Diaz played regularly as a No 9 last season and Ekitike could be expected to replace him.
With the Colombian’s departure, Liverpool could now also move for Newcastle’s Alexander Isak, who has told the Magpies he wants to explore a potential move away from St James’s Park.
