Tottenham Hotspur have secured the long-term future of one of their brightest prospects, Lucas Bergvall, by signing the 19-year-old Swedish midfielder to a new six-year contract that extends his stay at the club until 2031.

Bergvall, who joined Spurs from Djurgarden in July 2024 for a reported £8.5 million, has quickly established himself as a key figure in Ange Postecoglou’s squad.

Reflecting on his journey since arriving in North London, Bergvall expressed his satisfaction with his development and the club’s direction.

“I worked really hard for this and, with help from my teammates and the staff, I’ve developed a lot this season,” he told SpursPlay. “It’s a club with great ambitions. We’ve had a tough season, but we’ve learned a lot, and we still have a lot to do.”

Bergvall’s decision to commit his future to Tottenham comes amid a challenging season for the club, which has been marred by injuries and inconsistent performances.

Despite these setbacks, the young midfielder has been a standout performer, showcasing maturity and skill beyond his years. His versatility and composure in midfield have drawn praise from fans and pundits alike.

The new contract is seen as a significant vote of confidence in both Bergvall’s potential and the club’s project under Postecoglou. It also serves as a statement of intent from Tottenham, emphasizing their commitment to building a squad around young, talented players.

As Spurs prepare for the first leg of their Europa League semi-final against Bodø/Glimt, Bergvall’s focus remains on contributing to the team’s success.

“The goal is to win everything,” he declared, highlighting his ambition and determination to help the club achieve its objectives.
