Setback comes with Liverpool facing a demanding schedule of six games in 17 days
Liverpool are facing a month without first-choice goalkeeper Alisson after the Brazilian was confirmed to have picked up a hamstring injury against Galatasaray on Wednesday.
The 33-year-old pulled up just before the hour mark while chasing back to prevent Victor Osimhen from scoring. He was eventually replaced by second choice Giorgi Mamardashvili.
Alisson had a scan on Thursday so the club could determine the extent of the injury. Liverpool are yet to officially confirm how long he will be out but that information will be provided within the next 24-48 hours.
The goalkeeper has already had serious problems with injuries in recent times. He missed more than 30 games for club and country through injury last season and was also away for two months in 2023-24.
This latest setback comes with Liverpool facing a demanding schedule across domestic and European competition. After the international break Arne Slot’s side play six games in 17 days, including meetings against Manchester United, Real Madrid and bogey team Crystal Palace.
With Alisson expected to be out for those games, new signing Mamardashvili will be thrust into action.
Slot confirmed after the match against Galatasaray that he was “99.9 per cent certain” Alisson would not play their next game, against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday. The head coach will also provide additional information in his press conference on Friday.
