Liverpool have seen their £113 million bid for Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz rejected, with the Bundesliga side demanding a massive £118 million package to part with their star midfielder.

The 22-year-old Wirtz is believed to be keen on a move to Anfield and sees Liverpool as his preferred destination ahead of other suitors including Bayern Munich and Manchester City. However, Leverkusen are holding firm on their valuation, with suggestions that they would ideally want closer to £126m, though £118m with performance-based bonuses could be enough to seal the deal, according to the Daily Mail.

Talks between the two clubs are ongoing, and while Liverpool are reluctant to meet the highest demands, there is confidence that a compromise could be reached in the coming weeks.

An £118 million deal would be more than the record British transfer fee Chelsea paid for Moises Caicedo in 2023, which was £115 million.

Wirtz played a key role in Leverkusen’s unbeaten Bundesliga-winning campaign under Xabi Alonso and is widely regarded as one of Europe’s top young playmakers. Should he complete a move, he would join a dynamic midfield group at Liverpool that already includes Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch, with the expectation of helping the side continue their success under head coach Arne Slot.
