Florian Wirtz will become one of Liverpool’s highest-paid players after the Reds agreed a club-record £116m fee to sign the player from Bayer Leverkusen.

The 22-year-old attacking midfielder will earn a base salary of £195,000 per week, as reported by the Daily Mail. With performance-related bonuses, that figure could climb to over £245,000 weekly, which translates to a potential annual package of nearly £13m.

The initial transfer fee for Wirtz is £100 million, with an additional £16 million in add-ons linked to Liverpool’s success in the Premier League and Champions League.

Wirtz’s salary places him third on Liverpool’s wage list, after only Virgil van Dijk (£400,000 per week) and Mohamed Salah (£380,000). Both veterans signed new contracts late last season during Liverpool’s title-winning campaign.

Though the two clubs have agreed a fee, Wirtz still has to undergo his medical and sign a contract before officially being unveiled.

The highly rated German was one of the most sought-after players of the summer, with Liverpool beating Manchester City, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich to secure his services.
