Liverpool confirm the signing of Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen

Liverpool FC have announced their first signing for the summer, Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen, with the Netherlands international putting pen to paper on a long-term contract with the Reds.

Frimpong successfully passed a medical at the AXA Training Centre on Friday before finalizing his move to Anfield.

The 24-year-old versatile right-sided player joins Liverpool after four-and-a-half successful seasons with Leverkusen, where he made 190 appearances, scored 30 goals, and provided 44 assists.

Frimpong was instrumental in Leverkusen’s historic Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal double in the 2023-24 season. He was also named in the Bundesliga Team of the Season for two consecutive years, 2022-23 and 2023-24.

Frimpong is excited to work with new Liverpool manager Arne Slot, having heard positive reviews about the Dutch coach from his national team colleagues.

“I’m really excited,” Frimpong said. “Even when I was at the national team, some of the Feyenoord boys would tell me about him and be like, ‘He’s the best coach I’ve ever had.'”

The Amsterdam-born player began his career in the youth ranks at Manchester City before moving to Celtic in 2019.

He enjoyed a successful stint in Scotland, winning three major honors before joining Leverkusen. Frimpong has also made 12 appearances for the Dutch national team, scoring one goal since his debut in October 2023.
