Everton played their last match at Goodison Park on Sunday, with tributes pouring in from far and wide
Liverpool Football Club offered a heartfelt tribute to the historic home of city rivals Everton, amid final farewells to Goodison Park on Sunday.
The stadium has stood as one of English football’s most iconic venues for more than 130 years, and the Toffees hosted Southampton in what was the final match of the men’s team at the ground. Next season they will be moving to their new waterfront home at Bramley-Moore Dock, which has been named the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Liverpool, longtime neighbours and rivals of Everton, marked the occasion with a moving post on X. The club shared a series of photos reflecting on the shared history between the two sides, including one with a banner that read: “The Kop thanks you all. We never walked alone.”
Also featured was an image of two young mascots, one in a Liverpool kit, the other in an Everton shirt, and bearing the numbers nine and six. The image refers to the 96 victims of the Hillsborough disaster, and the sense of solidarity that the community has embraced over it.
In their message, Liverpool wrote:
“An historic stadium, a place where we have fought against one another and stood with each other. Highs, lows, and so many memories. The end of an era at Goodison Park and the beginning of a new one.”
