Premier League champions join race for the striker alongside Newcastle, who have made a bid worth around €75m
Liverpool have entered discussions with Eintracht Frankfurt over a potential deal for striker Hugo Ekitike.
Initial contact has been made between the clubs, as confirmed by multiple sources on Wednesday. The news comes just hours after the Premier League champions made enquiries with Newcastle United over the possibility of signing Alexander Isak for a fee in the region of £120m.
The response from Newcastle was that Isak is untouchable. The Magpies have no willingness to enter negotiations. Even though they have placed a minimum of £150m valuation on their No 9, this likely only for accounting purposes.
Ekitike has been on the radar of several Premier League clubs, but chiefly Newcastle, who have monitored the player for well over three years. They tried signing him in 2022 but Paris Saint-Germain swooped in to steal him away at the last minute.
A mixed spell at PSG led to a move to Frankfurt in 2024. His performances at the club so far have attracted the attention of several top clubs, especially in the Premier League where Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool have all shown interest at various points.
Newcastle continued their push for the striker by submitting a proposal on Tuesday for a deal worth around €75m. This is said to have been turned down by Frankfurt, who believe he is worth a lot more.
