Premier League champions submitted a bid in excess of £110m for the striker on Friday
Liverpool are not planning to return with an improved offer for Alexander Isak after Newcastle United firmly rejected their initial £110m bid.
The Premier League champions submitted an official offer for the striker on Friday but it was well short of Newcastle’s £150m valuation of the Sweden forward.
Club officials at Anfield now believe further negotiations would be unproductive unless Newcastle’s position shifts significantly.
Throughout the summer, Newcastle have insisted that Isak is not for sale. The 25-year-old is seen as central to the club’s ambitions, especially after their return to the Champions League.
Liverpool would only re-engage if Newcastle softened their stance, according to ESPN.
Newcastle are in the market for a striker, with both Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko and Brentford’s Yoane Wissa major targets. If they are able to land one or both of those, that could make them more willing to do a deal for Isak.
Isak missed Newcastle’s pre-season tour of Asia with a minor thigh problem and has been training alone, but at his former club Real Sociedad rather than at Newcastle’s facilities on Tyneside.
