Manager Oliver Glasner has warned club not to sell because getting the right replacement is almost impossible

Liverpool have made a £35m bid to sign Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace, but Palace might have reservations about selling with the transfer window closing on Monday.

Guehi is out of contract at Selhurst Park next summer and is understood to be open to a move.

Palace also expressed interest in selling earlier in the window, as it is their only opportunity to get a fee for him. However, the club may be reluctant to sanction a deal so late in the window.

Manager Oliver Glasner warned the club on Friday ahead of their trip to Villa Park that they cannot afford to let him go.

“From my side, he has to [stay],” said Glasner. “It’s not possible at the moment to find a Marc Guehi replacement who can play straight in the Premier League, being a starter, being consistent.

“When we see our foundation of the success we’ve had in the last few months, it’s our defence. Marc is a crucial part, he’s the captain, English international and has the most experience.

“Getting the right replacement in now, I think, is almost impossible.”

Palace have already added French youth international Jaydee Canvot from Toulouse to bolster their options at centre-back, but Glasner views the 19-year-old as one for the future rather than an immediate starter.

The club have also explored deals for Manuel Akanji and Mohammed Salisu this summer without success.
