Premier League champions have accepted a €65m fee from Al-Hilal for the Uruguay international
Liverpool have given Darwin Nunez permission to complete his move to Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal.
The Premier League champions have accepted a fixed fee of €53m for the 26-year-old, plus add-ons that could take the deal to €65m.
Nunez is now set to conclude personal terms with Al-Hilal. It is understood that the club have already offered the Uruguay international the outlines of a lucrative deal.
Talks between the two clubs progressed quickly after Al-Hilal formally approached Liverpool at the start of the week to declare their interest, before agreeing on a fee with the Premier League side on Wednesday.
AC Milan and Napoli had explored moves for Nunez, but neither were able to match the financial terms on offer from Saudi Arabia.
Al-Hilal manager Simone Inzaghi is thought to view Nunez’s skill set as an ideal fit for his system, and was a key force behind the move for the 26-year-old.
Nunez joined Liverpool from Benfica in the summer of 2022 for an initial fee of €75m, but never fully settled into a consistent starting role. He showed flashes of potential and returned 40 goals over three seasons, but the striker struggled to secure a regular place in the XI, starting only eight Premier League games last season.
Back in January, Liverpool had turned down a €70m offer from Al Nassr for Nunez, citing the need for attacking depth as they chased the league title. But with the club having spent significantly in the transfer window this summer, including the arrival of Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt for £79m, they have now opted to move on.
Nunez’s departure could also potentially allow Liverpool to spend upwards of £100m to sign Newcastle striker Alexander Isak, who has told the Magpies he wants to explore his options in the window and is understood to be interested in a move to Liverpool.
