Fee for the French striker could rise to around €90m with add-ons
Liverpool have submitted a formal offer worth at least €80m to Eintracht Frankfurt for striker Hugo Ekitike.
The proposed deal will include add-ons that could potentially take the total package to around €90m, according to Sky Sports.
Liverpool made enquiries about the player after Newcastle United spurned their advances for Sweden international Alexander Isak. Newcastle themselves then saw a bid of €75m for Ekitike turned down earlier in the week.
It is understood that Liverpool is the French youngster’s preferred destination. Liverpool’s bid exceeds Newcastle’s by at least €5m, but potentially by up to €15m. Frankfurt had told the Magpies that they valued the striker for more than €75m.
The final structure of a deal would need to be decided between Liverpool and Frankfurt if the German club are satisfied with the proposed initial fee.
Ekitike was notably an unused substitute during Eintracht Frankfurt’s pre-season opener against FSV Frankfurt at the weekend, which could mean he was kept out of the squad due to the uncertainty over his future.
Discussions between Liverpool and Frankfurt are understood to still be in progress.
