Liam Rosenior Backs Jørgensen After Errors in PSG Defeat

Chelsea coach Liam Rosenior defended goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen after his error contributed to the Blues’ 5-2 Champions League defeat to PSG.

Liam Rosenior has defended goalkeeper Filip Jørgensen after Chelsea suffered a 5-2 defeat to PSG in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie.

Having had scares where he (Jorgensen) almost the ball in the first half, the error finally came in the 74th minute when Jørgensen’s misplaced pass was intercepted, allowing Vitinha to score PSG’s third goal.

The mistake sparked a late collapse from Chelsea after the visitors had battled hard to remain level in the contest.

Earlier in the match, PSG had taken the lead twice through Bradley Barcola and Ousmane Dembélé. Chelsea responded on both occasions, with Malo Gusto and Enzo Fernández finding the net to keep the tie evenly poised.

Chelsea also thought they had equalised for a third time when João Pedro finished from close range, only for the goal to be ruled out for offside. The decision proved costly as PSG quickly regained control of the game.

The French side sealed the win late on thanks to two goals from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, giving the hosts a three-goal advantage heading into the second leg. Despite the disappointing result, Rosenior insisted he was pleased with much of Chelsea’s performance.

The Chelsea manager also defended his decision to start Jørgensen ahead of Robert Sánchez, explaining that the Danish goalkeeper’s composure in possession was important against PSG’s aggressive pressing style.

Looking ahead, Chelsea will turn their attention to an upcoming Premier League clash with Newcastle United before hosting PSG at Stamford Bridge.

Meanwhile, PSG coach Luis Enrique praised his team’s resilience and said the squad would now focus on resting and preparing for the decisive second leg.
