Chelsea have confirmed Liam Rosenior as their new head coach on a six-and-a-half-year contract, with the former Hull and Strasbourg boss set to begin his reign at Stamford Bridge this week.

Chelsea have officially confirmed the appointment of Liam Rosenior as their new head coach, handing the 41-year-old a long-term contract that will run until the summer of 2032.

Rosenior joins the Premier League side from Strasbourg, where he impressed with his work in Ligue 1, and becomes Chelsea’s latest permanent appointment following the departure of Enzo Maresca on New Year’s Day after a breakdown in relations with the club’s hierarchy.

Speaking after his appointment, Rosenior expressed pride at taking on the role. “I am extremely humbled and honoured to be appointed head coach of Chelsea Football Club,” he said. “This is a club with a unique spirit and a proud history of winning trophies.”

The new Chelsea boss will officially take charge for Saturday’s FA Cup third-round tie away to Championship side Charlton Athletic, marking his first match at the helm of the Blues.

Interim coach Callum McFarlane, who oversaw Sunday’s 1-1 draw at Manchester City, will remain in charge for Wednesday’s Premier League trip to Fulham, with Rosenior expected to observe the match from the stands.

Rosenior had all but confirmed the move earlier on Tuesday during a Strasbourg press conference, revealing he had been given permission to speak to Chelsea and describing the opportunity as one he could not turn down.

Despite limited experience at the very top level, Rosenior insisted he is ready for the challenge. “My whole life has worked towards becoming a coach,” he said. “Chelsea are on a different level, and if I didn’t believe I was ready, I wouldn’t have accepted this job.”
