Striker took part in Barcelona’s training session on Monday
Barcelona have received a major boost with Robert Lewandowski back in full training and pushing to make his return against Elche this weekend.
The 37-year-old striker has been sidelined since sustaining a muscle injury while on international duty with Poland earlier this month, missing fixtures against Girona, Olympiacos and Real Madrid.
The veteran was back training with the Barcelona squad on Monday at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper.
Club sources said Lewandowski’s progress is encouraging, although the medical staff are still cautious about rushing him back into action. He took part in light ball drills and conditioning exercises on Monday, with his workload being closely monitored in the buildup to next weekend’s match.
Lewandowski’s availability is encouraging for Hansi Flick, with the German looking for a quick response after his side’s 2-1 loss to Real Madrid at the Bernabeu.
Alongside the forward, Andreas Christensen and Joan Garcia are also expected to return to training soon, while winger Raphinha is still a little bit behind having suffered a setback last week.
Barcelona face Elche at the weekend having dropped five points behind with Sunday’s clásico loss.
