Striker says the Englishman has “huge potential” to thrive in Catalonia
Robert Lewandowski has backed Marcus Rashford to thrive at Barcelona, describing the winger as a player with “everything” needed to succeed in Spain.
Rashford joined Barcelona on a season-long loan from Manchester United this summer, with an option to buy next year included in the agreement.
The 27-year-old is looking for a fresh start after a difficult final year at Old Trafford, and he made his debut for La Blaugrana in Saturday’s 3-0 victory over Real Mallorca.
Lewandowski, who missed the game through injury, believes Rashford’s qualities make him an important addition to Hansi Flick’s squad.
“He has pretty huge potential,” said Lewandowski. “As a player, he has everything. He’s fast, with the ball, he’s really good, one-against-ones.”
The move to Spain came after Rashford fell out of favour at United under new management, and both sides decided it was best to start over elsewhere. The winger spent six months on loan at Aston Villa before completing a loan move to Barcelona this summer.
The La Liga champions were operating under strict financial restrictions so they could only afford an initial loan this window, but they considered the Englishman a necessary addition to help Hansi Flick’s side compete on all fronts again this season.
“He can help us a lot and really should,” said Lewandowski. “Of course that expectation can be high for him but if shows his best football he will be really good and I hope he can help us a lot this season.”
