Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany visited Uli Hoeneß to persuade him to sign Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig, but Hoeneß remains unconvinced.
Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany is eager to bolster his squad before the transfer deadline and has set his sights on RB Leipzig’s Xavi Simons.
In a bold move, Kompany visited supervisory board chairman Uli Hoeneß at his home to personally persuade him to allocate funds for signing the Dutch midfielder. Kompany’s enthusiasm for Simons is clear, but Hoeneß’s response was less than encouraging.
Despite board member for sport Max Eberl’s support for the move, Hoeneß remains unconvinced about signing Simons. The supervisory board insists that only a loan signing would be possible at this late stage of the transfer window. However, RB Leipzig is unwilling to consider a loan deal, preferring to sell Simons outright.
The transfer saga surrounding Simons is heating up, with Chelsea reportedly already in advanced negotiations.
Bayern Munich’s chances of signing Simons hang in the balance, and it seems the club’s interests may be at odds with Hoeneß’s reservations. Simons’ value has been estimated to be around €70 million, but Chelsea might be able to secure a deal at a significantly reduced price.
Kompany’s visit to Hoeneß demonstrates the importance Bayern Munich places on signing Simons. The club has been linked with several Chelsea players, including Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson. The question remains whether Chelsea will allow either player to leave on loan or if they’ll insist on a permanent deal.
