Harry Kane will miss Bayern Munich’s game against Freiburg but is expected to be fit for Real Madrid in the Champions League.
Harry Kane will miss Bayern Munich’s Bundesliga match against Freiburg this weekend, but head coach Vincent Kompany remains optimistic the striker will return in time to face Real Madrid next week.
Kane sat out England’s friendly defeat to Japan due to an ankle issue, and the problem has ruled him out of Saturday’s Bundesliga encounter. The forward has not recovered quickly enough to feature in the trip to Freiburg.
Bayern are scheduled to take on Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final on Tuesday. Kompany indicated that Kane’s absence this weekend is precautionary, with hopes high for his availability in the European clash.
The Bayern boss explained that Kane trained well earlier in the week but felt discomfort in his ankle while on international duty. As a result, the striker will not be risked against Freiburg, although Kompany expressed confidence about his chances of featuring in Madrid.

Despite Kane’s absence, Bayern remain in a strong position domestically. The league leaders hold a nine-point advantage over Borussia Dortmund and could move another step closer to a second consecutive Bundesliga title.
However, Bayern will also be without Kane’s understudy, Nicolas Jackson, who is suspended. The lack of attacking options could force Kompany to reshuffle his frontline for the weekend fixture.
Meanwhile, sporting director Christoph Freund confirmed that Raphaël Guerreiro will leave the club at the end of the season. The versatile defender, who joined from Dortmund three years ago and scored 12 goals in 89 appearances, has reportedly attracted interest from Juventus as he prepares for a new chapter.
