Juventus midfielder Khephren Thuram replaces injured Eduardo Camavinga in France’s squad for World Cup qualifiers against Ukraine and Azerbaijan.
Khephren Thuram has received a late call-up to the France squad for their World Cup qualifiers against Ukraine and Azerbaijan. The Juventus midfielder was originally left out of the squad, but coach Didier Deschamps has brought him in to replace Eduardo Camavinga, who is struggling with a hamstring injury.
Camavinga’s injury is a blow to France’s chances, as he has been a key player for the team. Deschamps had expressed concerns about Camavinga’s physical issues, which have affected his consistency with Real Madrid and the national team.
Thuram, 24, has made 13 competitive appearances for Juventus this season, contributing one goal and two assists. He made his senior France debut in March 2023 and has three caps for his country.
Thuram is expected to arrive at the French training camp near Paris tonight, ahead of the match against Ukraine at the Parc des Princes on Thursday. France leads Group D with 10 points, and a win would virtually guarantee their spot in the 2026 World Cup.
The match against Ukraine is also significant as it marks the 10th anniversary of the 2015 Paris terror attacks. The team is expected to pay tribute to the victims during the game.
