Adrien Truffert signing means that Bournemouth can allow Kerkez to join Liverpool; Kerkez signing could push Robertson to Atletico

Bournemouth have confirmed the signing of French left-back Adrien Truffert from Rennes on a five-year deal, opening the door for Liverpool to complete a deal for Milos Kerkez.

Kerkez was a key player in Andoni Iraola’s squad last season, with his performances at left-back putting him on Liverpool’s radar as the long-term replacement for Andy Robertson. However, having already sold Dean Huijsen to Real Madrid, Bournemouth were only ever going to sanction a sale if they first got a replacement for Kerkez.

That replacement is Truffert, who captained Rennes and made nearly 200 appearances for the Ligue 1 club. With the 23-year-old now at the Vitality Stadium it could trigger a domino effect, as there is a possibility of Andy Robertson heading to Atletico Madrid if Liverpool sign Kerkez.

The transfer was announced after the summer window officially reopened on Monday, 16 June, having earlier been open for a period of 10 days. The window will close for the second and final time this year on 1 September.

“It’s a dream for any player to play in the Premier League,” Truffert told Bournemouth’s official website after concluding the transfer. “It’s one of the best and most competitive leagues in the world. I’m looking forward to testing myself at this level, facing top players every week and helping the team achieve great things.”
