Juventus have opened talks with Crystal Palace for striker Jean-Philippe Mateta but have rejected a proposed swap deal involving Jonathan David.

Juventus have reportedly begun preliminary discussions with Crystal Palace over a potential move for striker Jean-Philippe Mateta as they plan for life after Dusan Vlahovic. The Bianconeri see the France international as an ideal long-term replacement for Vlahovic, whose contract in Turin is set to expire in June and is not expected to be renewed.

According to multiple reports in Italy, Juventus have already made initial contact with Palace, with head coach Luciano Spalletti keen to add a traditional centre-forward to his squad during the January transfer window.

Mateta’s physical presence and hold-up play are believed to fit Spalletti’s tactical preferences, making him a strong candidate to lead Juventus’ attack in the coming months.

Crystal Palace, however, have attempted to shape the deal by proposing a swap that would include Canada international Jonathan David as part of the agreement. Juventus were not receptive to that idea and have made it clear they are not willing to include David in any potential exchange, preferring a straightforward negotiation for Mateta.

The 26-year-old striker is under contract at Selhurst Park until June 2027, but reports suggest he is reluctant to sign an extension, a stance that could strengthen Juventus’ position in talks.
